Levittown holds a real place in American history. It sits in the Town of Hempstead, about 25 miles from Manhattan, and it is the largest community of its kind in Nassau County. It was the first truly mass-produced suburb in the country, built by Levitt and Sons on old potato fields between 1947 and 1951 for returning World War II veterans and their families.
